William "Bill" Richard Hollister, Sr. was born on March 4, 1928 in Washington, DC to the late Ray C. and Mary Belle Hollister. He went to be with God and his wife, Mildred P. Hollister with family around him in his home in Stafford, Virginia on May 27, 2007.
William was raised in Washington, DC, he served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged.
He settled in Glenn Dale, Maryland, where he built his home and raised his family. He was employed by the Washington Post for thirty-eight years in Operations Services.
He loved football and, especially, the Washington Redskins. He enjoyed gardening and giving vegetables to all his neighbors.
William had Alzheimer's disease for ten years and he is now finally free from the grip of this disorder. He fought the good fight and is now at peace with God.
He is survived by his daughter, Diane Carrigan (Kenneth) of Stafford, Virginia and their children, Drew; his caregiver, James and Carly; his son, William R. Hollister, Jr. (Pennie)and their children, Adrienne, Billye and Melissa of Waldorf, Maryland; two sisters, Marguerite Glover (Derald) and Alice McClay of North Carolina and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 1, 2007 in the Chapel of the Cedar Hill Funeral Home, 4111 Pennsylvania Avenue, Suitland, Maryland from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, where funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at 9:00 AM. Interment will be in the Washington National Cemetery in Suitland, Maryland.
