Viola Bates Martin was born on July 11, 1918 in Dumfries, Virginia to the late Thosbey and Viola Vines Bates. She was one of seven children; all of her siblings have preceded her in death. Viola was educated in the public schools of Dumfries, Virginia and Washington, DC.
She was married to the late Reginald F. Martin, Sr.; together they were the owners of a delicatessen and a service station.
Viola enjoyed traveling, cooking and spending quality time with her family. She loved telling humorous stories that brought joy to those around her. She enjoyed being around children very much. Viola loved the Lord and attended worship services.
She will be truly missed.
She leaves to cherish her memory and legacy; two stepsons, Reginald F. Martin, Jr. and Edwin P. Martin; two nephews Eulis T. Saunders and Henry Bates, Jr.; many loving step grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 10, 2007 from 10:00 AM until the service at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Cedar Hill Funeral Home, 4111 Pennsylvania Avenue, Suitland, Maryland. Interment will be private.
