On Wednesday, August 14, 2019 Vernell Williams, packed up her bags and put on her heavenly robe to meet her blessed savior. She would say Lord God of mighty here comes your child you must have heard my prayer, for after separation of the right and the wrong, I want to be at the meeting around the cross.

Vernell was born to the late Tom Stokes Sr. and Alberta Stokes on November 20, 1927, in Beulaville, North Carolina. She was married to the late John Henry Williams on September 9th, 1946 from that union their son Percy James Williams was born. She was educated in Duplin County Public School System. Vernell left her hometown and relocated to Washington DC in the 70's. She loved to cook and her favorite food was popeyed fried chicken. Her hobbies was sewing, and singing gospel songs and spending time with family and friends. Even though she had a son she often thought of her two nephews Kenny and Johnny Roy as her sons. Tonya Brinson would often dress aunt Vernell up on Christmas, Halloween, Easter and other holidays it made her smile and laugh. At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at Homeville Baptist Church in NC.

A free-spirited and cheerful person she was. She was easy going, she loved to have fun, and she was a friendly person; very loving aunt, mother, wife who loved her husband and son. She had three sisters and two brothers which have passed on. She leaves to cherish her memories: her son Percy, five nieces Arlean, Ann, Jean, Beverly, Bridgette, two nephews Kenny and Johnny Roy, and one granddaughter. Brenda a special friend and Butch who kept her smiling when they would sit and chat with her during family occasions, and a host of other relatives that was dear to her heart.
