Veeta Elizabeth Sims was born in Washington, DC on July 29 th 1955 to the late Elizabeth (Sims) Banks. As a young infant she soon came to know and love James Banks as the loving Father and provider for the family. She was educated in the District of Columbia Public School System. Soon after graduating from high school Veeta embarked into the world of employment with the United States Government Printing Office. She served there for many years until her health and physical limitation prevented her from continuing to serve.
Veeta's free-spirit and loving personality was admired and attracted by many throughout the Washington, DC Metro Area where she felt comfortable and at home. She was always the life of the party, and welcomed into the homes and hearts of many. The countless friends and associates that knew her, often adopted her as family because of that warm and unpretentious personality.
Veeta practiced her Christian faith openly by example without any lasting ties to any one giving church. She never married or bore any children, it was so obvious that she found love in all aspects for life. Always known to be in the company of her small pet dogs "Boo" and later "Baby". She loved those dogs and had a seemingly unconditional heartwarming happiness for them. Veeta ultimately found her soulmate in Ube Brown (Fish to all that know him). They settled into a special kind of mutual love, respect, and caring relationship that was rich and undying.
Early A.M. as the dawn was about to break and in the company of her Soulmate and caregivers she was taken from us to be with the Lord, Friday June 1 st 2018. This came after a long and courageous battle with the effects of a massive stroke and the complications caused by other affections.
Veeta leaves to cherish her memory: her Father James Banks; Sisters: Phyllis Mckelvin and Carolyn Banks; Brothers: Harold Sims, Andre Banks and Bryant Banks, her Loving Soulmate and caregiver Ube Brown, and Veeta's loving adopted family and caregivers Selina Brown and her children Cynika, Tyeisha and Tyree. Nieces and Nephews: Nicole Sims, Tanya and Tamika Mckelvin, Paulette Blagmon, Shantesse Dortch, Andre and Nicole Stewart, Rajah Sims, and Dante Skipwith . Countless more in-laws, grand nephews and nieces, friends and well-wishers.
