Obituary

Susie M. Kidrick was born January 6, 1939, to the late James Griffin and Louise (Adams) Griffin in Edgefield, S.C.  Susie who was affectionately known as "Sue" passed away at the age of 81 on June 14, 2020 at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.

She received her formal education at Edgefield County Academy in Edgefield, S.C. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at Macedonia Baptist Church in Edgefield, S.C.

Susie worked at Edgefield Café. Shortly after, she began working as a CNA at Reynolds Memorial Nursing Home. In 1966, she migrated to Washington, D.C. and continued her nursing profession as a caretaker.

In 1967, Susie was gainfully employed with the Federal Government as she worked for the General Services Administration (GSA).  In December 1969, she began working as a Bindery Operator with the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) for 28 years until her retirement in 1998.

Susie was a devoted wife to her husband Thornton A. Kidrick Jr. before his untimely death in 1976.  This union was blessed with four children.

If you had the privilege to have a conversation with Susie, you were left with an impressionable feeling of her, as she loved to talk and laugh on the phone. She loved to travel and shop.  And she thoroughly adored holidays, cooking, and just enjoying the presence of her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thornton A. Kidrick Jr.; parents, James and Louise Griffin; two brothers, James Griffin and Frank Griffin; one sister, Lucy Brown; and one great-grandson, LeMarcus Dupree.

She leaves to continue her legacy two daughters, Thomasina West of Hepzibah, G.A. and Angela Oliphant of Glen Burnie, M.D.; two sons, Thornton Kidrick III  (Willette) of Suitland, M.D. and Anthony Kidrick of Cheverly M.D.; three sisters Nancy Blocker of Aiken, S.C., Sarah Williams (Fred) of Edgefield, S.C., and Jennie Stevens-Reid (Carlos) of Bowie, M.D.; one brother, Raymond Griffin of Columbia, S.C.; eight granddaughters; two grandsons; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
