IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Beverly Sr.
February 20, 1918 – August 18, 2020
On Tuesday August 18,2020 at 9:30pm, Robert J. Beverly Sr., age 102, stepped into the loving arms of God. Born in Washington D.C. on February 20, 1918 to William and Mary Beverly. He was the 4 th child of eight. He was a widower and is survived by his sister Marjorie Elliott, his son Robert J. Beverly Jr., six grandchildren, 53 great and great-great grandchildren. Bob, as he was fondly known, attended Eastern High School. He was an extraordinary cook who served many years as a chef on the B & O train line, working for the Pullman Porter company, between D. C. and New Orleans. He was a Union man who rose up the ranks to become Treasurer of the Teamsters Local Union 237 in New York City. He was an avid reader who loved books about history, especially African-American history. Bob loved crossword puzzles, and he was doing that up until his last days. He lived in the Harlem part of New York City for 42 years. There he fell in love with Bebop Jazz. He has an extensive collection of jazz LP's. and CD's. After retiring from the Teamsters Union, Bob moved back to Washington, D. C. where he volunteered, for many years in the D.C. Public Schools as a math tutor. Viewing will be held on Friday, August 28,2020 at 11am at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 4111 Pennsylvania Avenue Suitland, Maryland 20746. Immediately following the viewing, there will be a short gravesite service. Honoring the Covid-19 guidelines, we ask that everyone please wear mask.
