Obituary

Paul Laurence Walker, son of the late John Henry Walker and Linda Belle Burns Walker, was born on February 22, 1929, in Hollidaysburg, PA. He attended Hampton University in Virginia where he earned a Bachelor's degree. While in college, Paul was in the ROTC and later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

In October 1953, he married Irene M. Pattillo from Altoona, PA, and they relocated to the Washington Metropolitan Area. From their union, two children were born. The couple raised their children in Maryland.  Paul was a devoted husband and father, and his children and grandchildren were the light of his life.

For more than 30 years, Paul had a successful career at the National Security Agency (NSA). While at NSA, he had the opportunity to attend the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, PA. As a person who loved to learn, he was often engaged in formal and informal training classes.

Paul served as a coach for youth basketball teams.  After retirement, he spent time videotaping church events and sporting activities that involved his grandsons. He also enjoyed playing golf, especially with his son, and was fascinated by anything related to technology.

Paul joined the Glenarden Church of Christ in the 1970's, where he was baptized and became an active member.  He served in a preaching rotation, prior to the church securing a full-time Pastor. Several years later, he joined Living Springs Christian Fellowship (LSCF) United Methodist Church where he served on the Finance Team.  During his time at LSCF, he was sponsored by his Pastor to participate in the Emmaus Walk (a spiritual retreat), which became one of the highlights of his spiritual journey. In 2013, Paul joined Union United Methodist Church where he was always inspired by the preaching and teaching of his oldest grandson.

After experiencing several health challenges, Paul spent the last three years of his life living with his daughter and son-in-law. His son-in-law's family and new neighbors embraced his presence and often called or visited. During his final years of life, playing the piano brought him joy.

Paul is survived by his children, Karen R. Weaver (Kendrick) and Paul K. Walker (Kamille); four grandchildren, Rev. Dr. Kendrick D. Weaver (Lynnette), Jason P. Weaver, Corey O. Weaver (Jasmine) and Eric Lonon; two great granddaughters, Mackenzie Weaver and Marley Weaver; a sister-in-law, Rev. Gwen Pattillo, and a host of other loving relatives, church family and friends. In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; brother, Robert J. Walker; sister, Jane A. Kelly; and brothers-in-law, Robert Pattillo, Charles Pattillo, and Thomas Kelly, Jr.
