Obituary

Mazie Monroe Green, (also lovingly called Grannie, Ma Mazie, Mother Green, Sister Green and Green Money) age 104 of Washinton, DC transitioned to eternal rest on Sunday, February 9, 2025, in Kernersville, North Carolina. She was the last of eleven children.

Mazie was born to the late Rev. Johnnie Monroe and Mary Almeta Ragin Monroe on October 1, 1920, in St. Paul, South Carolina. She was married to the late Eugene Green on September 25, 1938. From that union, two daughters were born: Jettie Mae Pearson, (deceased) Mary Beatrice Wilson (deceased).

Mazie was a beloved mother, mother-in law, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, great-great-great grandmother, aunt, sister, and sister-in-law. She was a friend and mother to many.

Mazie attended public schools in Clarendon County, South Carolina. Having been reared in a loving caring Christian home, she joined Liberty Hill A.M.E. Church where she was an active member.

Mazie moved to Richmond, Virginia where she lived for a while before moving to Washington D.C. She attended several churches before joining Scripture Cathedral Ministries under the leadership of Bishop C.L. Long. Mazie was a faithful member for over 50 (+) years and loved her Scripture Cathedral family. She served in the following ministries: Missionary, Prison, Helping Hands, Mothers Board, Willing Workers, and Women of Wisdom. Throughout her many years of attending, Mazie faithfully served wherever she was needed. She was known for her sweet spirit and using her hands to help others. To know her was to love her.

Mazie was employed by the Federal Government and B&B Catering Company until her retirement. Then at the age 83, she took classes to become certified as a home care provider and started a new chapter in her life. Upon retiring a second time, she moved to Kernersville, North Carolina in October 2009. While in North Carolina, she attended MT. Zion Baptist Church in Greensboro. Mazie continued to be a blessed inspiration to those she came in contact with.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two daughters, two sons-in­ law, one granddaughter, three great-grandchildren, ten siblings and a host of nieces and nephews.

She leaves to mourn her three granddaughters, Michelle V. McNair (John) of Kernersville, North Carolina, Juanita Durham (Steve) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland and Vanessa Wilson of Washington, DC, thirteen great-grandchildren, sixteen great-great grandchildren, six great-great-great grandchildren, two sister-in-laws, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends, three goddaughters, Beverly Shears, Marquita Thorpe and Henrietta L.

A celebration of life service will take place on Saturday, March 1st, at Scripture Cathedral Ministries, located at 7610 Central Avenue, Landover, MD 20785. The family will welcome friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with the service to follow.

The interment service will be held at Fort Lincoln Cemetery immediately following services.
