Marie Hattie Robinson, the daughter of the late Jacob Corum and the late Marie Jackson, was born in Washington DC on September 26, 1955. Sadly on Saturday afternoon, the 20th of February 2016, Marie lost her courageous battle with pancreatic cancer and was called home to be with the Lord.
Marie was raised in NW Washington DC. She received her formal education from the DC Public School System and graduated from Cardozo High School in 1973. From there she started her career at the Department of State, where she served as the lead program specialist. During her career she received many awards from various Secretary of States, dating as far back to the George H.W. Bush Administration. She also received numerous awards from the Director Generals of the Foreign Service. In May 2015, after 40 years of civilian service, she retired from the federal government and was honored for her service by current Secretary of State John F. Kerry.
Marie was affectionately known to family as "Hattie Cat" and "Peaches". In her leisure she spent time pursuing such hobbies as shopping, sewing, interior design, and spending quality time with her grandchildren. She was a "jack of all trades". She was handy around the house, proficient in car mechanics, and completed many home improvement projects in her home. She was also the family's go-to person for solving practical problems.
One of her best attributes was her heart. She loved her children and grandchildren immensely. She also had a soft spot for animals. Over the years she took in many stray cats and dogs, and in some cases saved them from desperate situations. Marie devoted her entire life to her family and was their true example of strength, independence, resilience, support, and love. Her legacy will live on for generations to come.
Left to cherish her precious memories are her five children George McCarroll, Luckeya McCarroll-Poole, Gregory Robinson, Lanita Buchanan, and Jennifer Robinson; her grandchildren Georell Stephens, Wayne Fox III, Lamea Robinson, Rico Tinsley-Robinson, Gabriel Hamlett, McKenzie and Madison Poole, Vanessa Robinson, and Norah Marie Buchanan; her goddaughter Topaz McCoy; her two son-in-laws Ian Buchanan and Michael Poole; her daughter-in-law Dana McClary; and a host of family, friends, and colleagues who also adored her.
