Luvinia E. Washington was born on December 31, 1924 in Indian Rock, Virginia to the late John Henry William and Nannie Bannister. She departed this life on May 22, 2007 in Alexandria, Virginia.
She was educated in the Public School System of Indian Rock, Virginia.
After the sudden death of her first husband she moved to Washington, DC. She later met and married Samuel O. Washington.
Luvinia was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church.
She retired from the Navy Yard as a cook in 1990. After her retirement she continued to work in the community. She worked part-time at the Fountain at The Washington House Nursing Home for eleven years.
Luvinia made the best hot rolls and potato salad in the world. She cherished and loved her grandchildren and one, Deanne, who shared her love of the soap opera "Passions."
Our last fond memory of Luvinia was her 82nd birthday (December 31st) in which her sons did all of the cooking. The daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren celebrated a large breakfast with her.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Johnny Joe Dennis, Sr.; her son, Wayne Dennis; her daughter, Sharon Washington; her two great grandsons, Donald Dennis, III and Ryan Andrew II; her two sisters, Dorothy Hoyle and Evelyn Anderson; and her two brothers, Hardin and John Bill Bannister.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her beloved husband of fifty-two years; Samuel O. Washington; her six sons, William "Billy" Dennis, James "Jimmy" Dennis, Donald "Duck" Dennis, Sr., Johnny Joe "Punchie" Dennis, Anthony "Tony" Washington and Curtis "Steve" Washington; five daughters-in-law, Diane, Jeannette, Birdell, Patricia and Donna; five sisters-in-law, Ethel Mae, Tina, Jacequline, Joanne and Ailene; fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 11:00 AM until the service at 12 Noon in the Chapel of the Cedar Hill Funeral, 4111 Pennsylvania Avenue, Suitland, Maryland. Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Suitland, Maryland.
