Lizzie Henry Oates , entered into her eternal home on Monday, June 28, 2021 at the age of 93. She was the daughter of the late Henry Jones and Luberta Oates. Lizzie's husbands Rev. Clarence Musgrove, Sr. and Clarence Hamlet, Sr. proceeded her in death. Her sons Henry Robinson and James (Jimmy) Johnson also proceeded her in death.
Lizzie, received her formal education in Clinton, NC before moving to Washington DC in 1950. She secured a job as a waitress where she met her first husband Rev. Clarence Musgrove, Sr. To this union 2 children were born, Mary Elizabeth Johnson and Clarence Musgrove, Jr. Sadly this marriage ended in divorce.
Lizzie, was a great Humanitarian, her witty and out-going personality captured the hearts of many people that she met while traveling the road of life. Lizzie helped everyone that was down on their luck. She would take them into her humble home, feed them love them and pray with them and assist them in finding a job. Lizzie would accompany them to Doctor's appointments, visit them in jail and whatever they needed she would be right there. She would never turn anyone away. She did all of this while working as a maid for different families and she never complained or showed signs of weariness.
Lizzie, loved to cook, everyone loved her fried chicken, fried fish, potato salad, fried collard greens and cornbread cooked on top of the stove never in an oven. No matter how bad her day may have been she always made time for her children, their friends, her friends and countless others.
Lizzie, loved to have parties in her early years. She would host nice, clean decent house parties, where everyone would dance and laugh. A good time was definitely had by all. She was a strikingly beautiful Lady, she was always reserved and very respected. She had many rules that all must follow, if they expected to remain in her home or return again. Everyone knew not to cross her she had no problem setting the record straight and that problem would never happen again. She raised her children with a strong hand and swift tongue. We knew she meant business and we didn't play with her.
Lizzie, answered God's calling and joined Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, there she met a lot of great people and formed friendships that lasted her for the remainder of her life. She joined the Progressive Women's Club where she served diligently and received many honors. She loved her Church family and would often speak of her rides on the Church van to and from Church. Trustee Short would always made sure she would get her KFC every Sunday.
Lizzie, resided at the Regency House on Connecticut Avenue NW until her heath started to declined, which prevented her from living alone or with the assistance of family or health aides. She loved her home and served on the Residential Counsel for many years. Everyone knew and respected her for her strong will and dedication.
Lizzie, and Clarence Hamlet Sr. married May 1975. She was an active part of his children Doris, Dianne, Esther and Clarence Hamlet Jr. lives, she remained active until her death. Her Husband Clarence and his Son Clarence Jr both proceeded in death.
Lizzie, leaves to cherish her awesome memories, daughter, Mary "Papoose" Johnson and son Clarence Musgrove Jr. Granddaughters, Bettina "Nat-n-Noni" Bell (Larry) and Kamaron "Scopey" Jones (Brian). Two Grandsons, Allen "AJ" Johnson and Hassahn Musgrove. Great Grands, Antaeus Chisley (Iris), Keara Elizabeth Jones, JaQiah Johnson, and Amoni Johnson. Lizzie is also survived by many more Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren , Cousins, Nieces, Nephews and countless other relatives and friends including her extended family "The Laubachs".
