It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Maroulis, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who peacefully departed this world on April 21, 2024. Born on July 10, 1929 in Ithaki, Greece, John embarked on a career as a Greek sailor for the Onassis company, traversing the vast expanse of our world's oceans.
At 32, John anchored his life in Washington D.C., where he dedicated over four decades to serving others with warmth and hospitality in the restaurant industry, touching the hearts of countless patrons and colleagues.
In retirement, John found renewed purpose at St. Theodore's Church, where his faith and compassionate spirit shone brightly. As parish council president, he exemplified devotion, stewardship, and a boundless capacity for friendship.
Alongside his beloved wife, Irini, whom he cherished until her passing in 2000, John's heart overflowed with love for his two children, Spiro and Maria, their spouses Christine and Jim, and his four grandchildren, Nicholas, Ava, Eirene, and Anna.
John is also survived by his dear sisters Nina and Helen, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives were touched by his kindness and generosity.
A celebration of John's life will be held on Monday, April 29th, at St. Theodore Greek Orthodox Church, located at 7101 Cipriano Road, Lanham, MD 20706. The family will be present to receive guests from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, with a heartfelt service to follow in honor of his memory.
After the service, friends and family will gather to bid their final farewells as John is laid to rest at Cedar Hill Cemetery, a peaceful place where his spirit can find eternal rest and peace. John's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, as we cherish the moments shared and the impact he made during his time with us.
In lieu of flowers, please send all donations in memory of Mr. Maroulis to St. Theodore Greek Orthodox Church, 7101 Cipriano Road, Lanham, MD 20706.
