Obituary

JOAN EARLENE YOUNG JACKSON (Age 77) of Temple Hills, MD departed this life on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. Joan was born in Washington, DC on June 27, 1944. She was the fourth of six children born to the late Otis Benjamin Young, Sr. and Carrie Lee Branch Young. Her parents named Joan Earlene after two of her uncles John Rudolph Young, Sr. and James Earlie Young because when she was born, they were serving in World War I I.

Joan had a relatively normal childhood after she decided that kindergarten was not so bad. Joan graduated from Spingarn High School in Washington, DC. She worked as an Information Technology Specialist for AID (Agency for International Development) for 40 years.

Joan was baptized at an early age. She was a devoted member of East Washington Heights Baptist Church. As a member of the Baptist Women, Joan worked in the clothes closet. She cut and rolled strips of sheets into bandages and collected empty medicine bottles to be sent to needy countries.

Joan enjoyed walking and shopping. She loved word search puzzles, Perry Mason, Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud. She loved good food especially deserts. Her main fault was a sweet tooth.

Joan was predeceased in death by her husband Melvin Eugene Jackson, brother Otis Benjamin Young, Jr., and sister Bettie Young Miller. Joan is survived by her son Kenneth Eugene Jackson, her daughter Kim Rene Lampkins, son-in-law, Maurice Lampkins, Sr, five grandchildren, Teressa Joy Jackson, Marcellus Eugene Jackson, Keyanna Louise Jackson, Kaela Joan Jackson and Maurice Calvin Lampkins, Jr., one great-grand child, Aqil Buhera Sabour; three siblings Mamie Jenkins (Norman), CeCelia Robinson (Jerry) and Vernon Young (Antoinnette), and many other relatives and friends. Joan was blessed to be a five year cancer survivor in November 2021. Joan was a kind, loving and generous person, she loved children and they loved her.

Joan was a resilient person she never ran from humor. She loved a good laugh. She really enjoyed a good life. She will be sorely missed by family and friends.
