Today, June 19, 2026, we gather to acknowledge and celebrate the new life that Jean has entered in the presence of God.

Born on August 16, 1941, in Washington, D.C., Jean lived a life defined by love, strength, grace, and devotion to her family. She was a woman of remarkable character whose presence brought warmth and joy to everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Jean dedicated many years of service as a nutritionist with Head Start before embracing her role as a homemaker. She took immense pride in caring for her family and creating a welcoming home filled with love, laughter, and beautiful memories.

Family was the center of Jean’s world. She rarely missed an opportunity to attend her grandchildren's’ sporting events and celebrations- always cheering them on with pride and enthusiasm. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends, opening her home and heart to those she loved. Known for her impeccable style and elegance, Jean had a passion for decorating her home and creating beautiful spaces that reflected her creativity and sophistication.

When she wasn’t cheering on her grandkids, she spent her time sewing, watching westerns, and playing bid whist with her card playing crew.

Jean was admired for being classy, confident, and genuine. She was a loyal friend, a loving mother and grandmother, and a woman who was never afraid to speak her mind. Her honesty, wisdom, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort in knowing that Jean’s legacy of love, strength, and grace will live on through her family and the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure. She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.

Jean was preceded in death by her beloved spouse, Percy Conrad Givers; her beloved granddaughter, Larissa Martin, parents Mable Griffin and Leo Drye, and her sisters, Florence Long and Catherine Branch.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted sister Shirley Griffin, loving children, John Martin, Conrad Givers (LaShawn) and Keena Wilson (Thomas), her cherished grandchildren, Shawnta Young, Jordan Jeffries, Nathan Martin, Tameka Martin, Landon Givers (Alondra), Miles Givers (Robin), Tyre Givers Wilson (Imani), Alana Givers Wilson, Gabrielle Givers, Amari Givers, and CJ Givers, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-grandkids, dear friends, and loved ones who will forever treasure her memory.
