James Lee Pleasant was born January 19, 1970, to L.B. Pleasant and Caroline Glover in Washington, DC. He was called to his eternal home in Heaven on April 16, 2021.
James grew up in Upper Marlboro, MD where he attended Frederick Douglass High School and later graduated from Croom Vocational High School in 1988. There, he learned and mastered life skills in culinary arts, carpentry, landscaping and masonry. He was especially artistically talented with particular ways of drawing, which he enjoyed the most.
Shortly after High School, he relocated to Washington, DC and had a son, James L. Pleasant, Jr., aka Lil' Punkin, with Toronika Shelton in 1992. James relocated back to Maryland after the sudden loss of his son.
James went on to work for the P.G. County Parks and Recreation and even got into the Events Industry as a Tent Architect for Party Perfect.
He later permanently moved to his Father's hometown of Wilson, NC. There, he worked at an Amazon Warehouse and landscaping company until a medical condition prevented him from laborious work.
James was affectionately known as Punkin to his immediate family, and known to other friends and family as Black, P, DC and King James. He was a quiet guy like his Father, and always observant of his surroundings. He enjoyed family gatherings and getting together with friends. He was a good person and very well liked. It goes without saying that he was the best big brother. He was also a good father to his son during his short life.
James is preceded by his son, James L. Pleasant Jr., and his father, L.B. Pleasant.
James leaves behind cherished memories and is survived by his mother, Caroline G. Pleasant, sister, Candice Pleasant and niece, Desiree Pleasant, along with a host of family and friends.
James L. Pleasant is truly loved and will be deeply missed.
