Irene Marie Callaghan, the beloved daughter of Jean Moore and Tom Callaghan, left a lasting impact on those who knew her. She completed her high school education at St. Vincent Pallotti High School in Laurel, MD in 1974, demonstrating her dedication to learning and self-improvement from a young age. Born without siblings, Irene found companionship and joy in her daughter, Amy Callaghan, as well as in the extended family of cousins who cherished her presence.

Known for her love of feline companions, Irene was a passionate cat enthusiast who found solace and comfort in the company of her furry friends. Apart from her affinity for cats, she also had a variety of interests that brought her happiness and fulfillment. Irene took pleasure in the simple joys of life, such as reading, going to the movies, and indulging in a bit of retail therapy through shopping excursions. Her entertainment choices reflected her diverse tastes, as she enjoyed watching talent competitions like The Voice and following the dramatic storylines of soap operas.

Irene's professional journey began at the age of 19 when she embarked on a career at Pepco, a commitment that would span an impressive 44 years of dedicated service. Her hard work, loyalty, and contributions to the company over the years undoubtedly left a lasting legacy within the organization and among her colleagues.

To honor Irene's memory and celebrate her life, a visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 22nd, at Cedar Hill Funeral Home, located at 4111 Pennsylvania Ave, 20746. Family and friends are invited to join together from 10-11 am to pay their respects, share memories, and offer support to one another during this time of loss. Following the visitation, a graveside service will be conducted at Cedar Hill Cemetery, providing a final opportunity for loved ones to bid farewell to Irene and reflect on the impact she had on their lives.
