Helena was born on September 26, 1929 in Washington, DC to Pauline Carr and Daniel Williams. She departed this life on March 9, 2018 at Washington Community Hospice Facility. She was preceded in death by her mother Pauline Carr, father Daniel Williams, siblings Wilbert Carr, Ralph Carr, Gladys Carr and son John F. Sutton.

Helena attended District of Columbia Public School system and completed the eighth grade. Early on Helena worked in the custodian field, but very early on had to forfeit this employment to help raise her family, which is where she put all of her efforts and got much joy. Helena was married to William L. Sutton for 33 years and she treasured family and friends.  While sweet and soft spoken, Helena was a very strong woman as she held her family close and expressed unconditional love every day. Just as she spent her life raising and mentoring her sons, daughters and extended family members, she gave of herself to charitable efforts, specifically to requesting churches, veteran groups and to charities in support of animal rights.

Helena was baptized early in life and gave her life to Christ. She made Metropolitan Baptist Church her spiritual home until she began to take ill and the church location moved, which further complicated her ability to attend. Although Helena was unable to continue physically attending church on a regular schedule, she would live stream services and she never stop praising God. Helena has taken her wings and now she leaves to mourn: Sons William L. Sutton Jr, and Jesse L. Sutton, daughters Ann V. Cole, Christine M. Sutton and Lisa M. Sutton- Jenkins, son in law Joseph F. Jenkins as well as a host of grand children, great-grand children, nieces, nephews, cousins and additional family.
