Obituary

Hazel Henderson was born June 6, 1918 to Gilford and Nettie Rooker in Knoxville, Tennessee.  She graduated from Austin High School and was a faithful member of Rogers Memorial Baptist Church for many years.  She had one sister who is deceased, Ethel Mae Harvey.  As she promised her sick sister, Aunt Hazel faithfully took the role (and still does…smiles) of mothering her sister's four children, Eddie Harvey, Jr. (deceased), Gilford Harvey, Maxine Stone and Rosezell James.

She left Knoxville, Tennessee in 1966 and moved to Washington, DC to marry her first husband Richard Roberson (deceased).  In 1974 she married James Julius Henderson (deceased, 1993).  She joined Christian Fellowship Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Walter Coles.  She officially joined St. Paul Church in 2012 where she was always treated like a member (smiles).  In June she received the Proclamation from the State of Maryland honoring her as a Centurion.

Aunt Hazel is survived by 2 loving nieces Maxine Harvey-Stone and Rosezell James and one nephew Gilford Harvey; great nieces LaRoyace Stone Munnerlyn and Tonya Dixon; great nephews Reginald Stone, Curtis Harvey and Brian Isabell;  three step children Janice (Thad) Erme, Monica (Robbie) Perry, and Craig Henderson and a host of other loving family and friends.

We are all so thankful that God has blessed us with this wonderful, caring woman for so many years.
