George Wilson Johnson, affectionately known as "Uncle George", departed this life on Tuesday morning, March 20, 2007. George, son of the late Charley and Drusilla Johnson, was born on October 24, 1916 in Darlington, South Carolina. He received his education in the public schools of Darlington.

George was a member of the St. Joseph's Baptist Church in Washington, DC. He was married to the late Verdell Elaine Johnson on June 28, 1952. They lived in Washington, DC and later moved to Chapel Oaks, Maryland, where they resided for over forty years. He retired from the Manhattan Laundry in Washington, DC after more than forty years of service.

He leaves to cherish his memory; a step-son Richard Doyle, Sr.; a daughter-in-law Ruth Doyle; three grandchildren Richard Jr., Renee and Ramona; several great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law Fred Tabron, Sr.; a sister-in-law Margaret Johnson; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. George was preceded in death by his siblings, Ellen Best, Christabel Wells and Rev. Joseph Johnson.

The family will receive friends on Monday, March 26, 2007 at 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Cedar Hill Funeral Home, 4111 Pennsylvania Avenue, Suitland, Maryland. Interment in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.
