On the afternoon of her 92nd birthday, Frances Melvin suffered a stroke. While hospitalized she suffered a second and more devastating stroke. As a result of the second stroke, she passed away very peacefully the afternoon of June 2, 2016 at the home of her daughter, Linda, with her son Donald and Linda in attendance.

She is survived by her children Joyce Wilson, Linda Vermillion and Donald Melvin, her grandchildren Barbara Welter,Joshua Wilson, Bradley Hardesty, Shiloh Wilson, Michael Franks, Chelsea Wilson and Robert Vermillion Jr. and her brothers, Louis Lombardy, Richard Lombardi and her sister, Betty Quimby and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband..Gordon B Melvin and her daughter Nancy Franks and brothers William Lombardy and Robert Lombardy and sister, Loretta Walker.

She was born and raised in Washington D.C. and lived there until she moved to Prince George's County Maryland with her family in 1963. She remained a Maryland resident for the rest of her lifetime.

She held a variety of jobs in her lifetime; from sales clerk to manager of a candy store.

She enjoyed crocheting, reading and search a word puzzles but she got the most enjoyment from sewing. From making clothes to hemming and altering clothing, she was in her element.

While most of her friends and relatives have predeceased her, she still leaves many people behind that will miss her.
