Obituary

Florice (Flo) Mixon, a resident of Landover, Maryland passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2020 in Birmingham, Al.  Born on August 14, 1940 in Dallas County, Alabama to the late Joe and Willie Mae Bell, she was the youngest of fourteen siblings.

In the early sixties, while visiting relatives in Logan, West Virginia, Flo met and fell in love with James H. Mixon.  They would later marry and merge their blended families into one.  Together they relocated to Washington, DC and settled in Landover, Maryland, where they resided for more than 35 years.

Flo held several jobs during her working career.  She ultimately retired from the Department of Agriculture where she was known for her dedication, feisty spirit, and sense of humor.  She loved to dance and if given the opportunity she would sing.  She never let the family forget that she was besties with Eddie Kendricks who sang with the Temptations.

She leaves an incredible legacy of love, faith and compassion to her children, Gregory Mixon (Jeannie), Vanessa Hatcher Jones (Darren), Michelle Avenie, and Kimberly Donaldson, fifteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her thirteen siblings, her husband, James H. Mixon and son, Van D. Mixon.
