Ellen Frances Orndorff Allen, 97, went home to be with the Lord on December 28, 2015. Ellen was born in Washington, DC to the late Orestus and Nellie Mae Orndorff. She went to school in Washington, DC but lived in the State of Maryland for 76 years before moving to DE.
She is survived by her four daughters and their families - Barbara Roberts (Patrick) of Needmore, PA, Patricia Simmons of Silver Spring, MD, Ethel Lennon (Patrick) of Rockville, MD and Lewes, DE, and Linda Gillen (Gerald) of Rehoboth Beach, DE. Ellen has 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She has one surviving sister - Daisy Carruthers (Earl) from Palm Harbor, FL.
Ellen retired from JHU/APL in 1981 after working in the accounting department for 20 years. Prior to that time, she worked for Myron Cowell Construction Co.
Ellen enjoyed reading, listening to pop & country music, painting ceramics, crocheting, playing cards and working crossword puzzles. Ellen enjoyed traveling in the USA as well as abroad with her daughters and her sister, Daisy.
A viewing will be held at Cedar Hill Funeral Home, 4111 Pennsylvania Avenue, Suitland, MD on January 8, 2016 at 10:00 am with a funeral service following at 11:00 am.
