Elaine Victoria Bruce Pryor, 91, of Chevy Chase, MD, transitioned May 10, 2024. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Preston Bruce, Sr. and Virginia McLeod Bruce, and by her younger brother, Preston Bruce, Jr.

Elaine was a proud and active member of the Washington, DC, community. She was a graduate of Dunbar High School, Miner Teachers College and received a master's degree from George Washington University. She was an accomplished educator, guidance counselor and assistant principal within D.C. Public Schools.

Elaine was married to the Honorable William Cornet Pryor for 66 years until his passing in November 2020. She led an active social life as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated; The Metropolitans; The Capezios; Just Good Friends; and The Society.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory two sons, William Bruce Pryor (wife Beth) and Stephen Bruce Pryor (wife Leslie); four grandchildren, Caroline Elizabeth Pryor, Paige Yancey Pryor, Michael Aubin Pryor, and William Pemberton Pryor; sister-in-law Kellene Bruce; nephew Preston Bruce, III (with daughter, Skylar); niece (Kellene Elaine Bruce (husband Amen Ecker); and a host of additional relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 3 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 5101 16th Street NW, Washington, DC. A private family interment will occur at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, Maryland. Arrangements by Cedar Hill Funeral Home.
