Edna Alerta Cunningham, the daughter of the late Robert L. Thomas and Rosa G. Bush was born on April 17, 1935 and was called to Glory on Monday, March 19,2018.
Edna attended local schools in the DC area. Edna was a smart and savvy woman. She worked at various jobs in the DC meto area which included working in the laundry factories to security until she opened her own Construction Business in the early 80's with her longtime companion Joe Bonham. BTC Construction provided many jobs to inner city skilled young men and held many prestigious contracts within the DC area. Their company was one of the few companies that were awarded huge contracts to minority owned companies in the DC area. BTC Construction folded in the early 90's due to the declining of contracts given to minority companies and the economy. Edna quietly retired and enjoyed her retirement following her interests and watching her grandchildren.
Edna had an infectious smile and was friendly to anyone she came in contact. Edna loved to play the lottery, crossword puzzles, Chinese Checkers and watching her favorite daytime doap opera "The Young and the Restless".
edna is predeceased by her parents, her longtime companion, Joe Bonham, her older sisters, Wilma, Ethel, Clara & Rosa, her blended sons, Frank Turner, Lyndell Odie Sr. and her first born grandson, Thomas M. Winston.
Edna is survived by her biological children, Thomas (Dorothy), Winston Jr., Lawanda (John) Ford, Ezekiel Cunningham and Iris (Russell) Sams. Edna also is survived by three blended children, "Edna didnt believe in the word step-children". James Odie Jr., Dan (Shelia) OdieSr. and Eileen Gathers. She has a host of grandchildren, great granchildren, one great-great grand child and a host of niecces, great nieces and great nephews who will miss her dearly.
