In Remembrance of our beloved Eddie DeAnn Dixon
June 14, 1938 - June 1, 2021
Eddie DeAnn Dixon born Eddie Mae Ellis on June 14, 1938, was called to glory June 1, 2021.
She was born to Charley and Levelle Ellis in Winchester, Arkansas and was named after her paternal Aunt Eddie Ellis Sturdivant.
Her parents moved to Lansing, Michigan in 1950 along with her five siblings: Pearline Stoudamire, Mara Lee Johnson, Relevah Bryant, Donque and Charley Jr. She had a sixth sibling, Floyd who passed at a young age.
In Lansing, Eddie Mae attended Lansing Elementary and J.W. Sexton High School. After high school she worked as a nurse's aide and in September 1957 married Preston Lee Dixon at the age of 19. Around this time is when she changed her name to Eddie DeAnn Dixon. Of this union four children were born: Lisa Renee, David Preston, Leslie Ann (Barber), and preceded in death by her fourth child Preston Lee Jr. (Buzz).
In 1966, the family moved to the DC/Maryland area where she was a loving mom and wife. She worked as a rental office agent and then as a Josphar Harris Clothing store associate. After that she landed at the American Bankers Association as a Customer Service Representative where she retired.
In Maryland, taking after her father, she had a green thumb and loved looking after her little garden. She especially loved her strawberry and mint plants. She often would take the short drive to the Chesapeake Bay/North Beach area to relax by the ocean. She enjoyed time with her grandchildren: Elisha Rochelle Dixon (who she called Rochelley), Jay Michael Barber, Amaris Ann Dixon, Gabriel Preston Dixon, J'ron Makis Barber, and Zyairah Amiyah Dixon and her great-grandchildren Riondo Tyquan Harrington and Hannah Rose Dixon Gordon.
Eddie DeAnn accepted the good Lord-Jesus Christ at a young age. She regularly attended church in Lansing, MI and Galilee Baptist Church in Suitland, MD where she sang in the choir and attended other church functions and services.
After retirement she moved back to Michigan, as she promised her parents and took care of the family home and her ailing brother, Charley Ellis Jr. (1940-2003) until his passing. There she also had a garden of beautiful plants and trees including a peach tree.
She succeeded in death by her brother Donque and a host of family and friends.
Mom (Mommy), Granny, friend and sister, Eddie DeAnn will be loved and greatly missed.
