David Smith passed away suddenly on Friday, October 13, 2023. God sent down his angels to carry an earthly
king to his heavenly home.
David was born in Rembert, SC to the late Alfred and Marie Smith. He was educated within the public school
system in Sumter County, SC. At an early age, he confessed Christ as his Lord and Savior. He became a member
at Peace Baptist Church, then moved on to become a longstanding and active member at Master's Child
Church of Indian Head, MD, where he was a member of the Greeter and Parking Lot Ministries, to which he
took great pride in performing his duties.
David was joined in marriage to Annie Mae Deas on July 10, 1962. They migrated to Washington, DC and had
three daughters. As he acclimated to DC, he learned excellent work ethics from his sister Mable and a family
friend Julies (Bubba) Pringle. Mr. Pringle taught him how to paint, hang drywall and many other trades. Using
the skills and knowledge he had gained from Mr. Pringle, he began his career as a painter for one of the largest
commercial companies, JBG Properties. He moved upward within JBG, from a painter to a
supervisor. Unfortunately, in 1984, he was forced into early retirement, due to a work injury at Sussex Square
Apartments. However, if you know David Smith, going into early retirement was not going to immobilize him.
He was solicited by friends, family, and other referrals to paint their homes and perform other types of home
improvements. From that he was able to build his own clientele.
David was a member of the John T. Hill No. 8 F & A.A.Y. Masons, Prince Hall Origin of Washington, DC. He
was a 32nd Degree Mason and held the following positions of Sergeant Arms and Treasurer.
David enjoyed talking with his family and friends on the telephone; visiting with his neighbors; watching
football, basketball; and he and his brother, ED, loved watching WWE together. He participated in the lives of
his grandchildren and always made sure they had "spending change" (as he called it) in their accounts as well
as in their pockets. Moreover, he loved to see videos of his great-grandchildren, Milah and Mason – Milah,
dance performances and Mason practicing his martial arts. He always enjoyed going to Golden Corral with his
dear companion Margaret Young.
David Smith was proceeded in death by his wife Annie Mae Smith; his parents Alfred and Marie Smith; sisters
Ruth, Rebecca, Mable and Carrie; brothers, Joseph, Isaac, and Freddie. He leaves to cherish his memories three
devoted daughters, Terry Smith, Michelle Wiggins (Clinton, Jr) and Nicole Young; Two sisters, Alice Osborne,

and Dorothy Smith; One brother, Wilbur (Ed) Smith (Mary); Brother-in-law, Frank Deas (Sarah) and Sister-
in-law, Cora Deas; Grandchildren, Sierra Kaikai, Jameka Wiggins, Clinton Wiggins III, Renaud Scott II

(Malaika), Renika Jordan and Tanika Wiggins; Great-grandchildren, Milah Scott and Mason Scott; Great-
grand pups, Cairo Wiggins, Poppy Wiggins and Sage Jordan, and a host of nieces and nephews; along with his

Spiritual Leaders and MCC family.
