Obituary

Surely he will never be shaken; a righteous man will be remembered forever . He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD. Psalm 112

David Windell Fields, Sr., in whose memory we gather here today was a man of class, talent, presence and accomplishment. David's humble disposition and infectious smile had an effect on everyone he came into contact with.

David W. Fields, Sr. was born on Friday, March 19,1948, in Charlottesville, Virginia to the late Henry M. and Helen V. Fields, the second of eight children,(Henry, Shirlee, Lorenza, Gloria,Gregory,Barry and Judy).

David was educated in the Charlottesville public school system and graduated from Jackson P. Burley High School. He continued his education at the University of the District of Columbia in Washington, DC from 1968-1970, majoring in Business. His education set the foundation for his successful career in advertising and sales, where he managed several major retail stores until his retirement in 2013. David was a hardworking man and showed up to work dressed in a manner that exuded professionalism and style. In addition to his career in sales, he had an interest in African American art, gardening, dogs, photography and sports (basketball, football and tennis). David was also an outdoor enthusiast and found solace in being around nature as demonstrated through his routine bike rides and jogs around the DC Metropolitan area.

Most notably, David's harmonious and mellifluous voice was the delight of everyone who had the pleasure to hear it. If his favorite group The Whispers were playing, you could discern ever so softly his God-given falsetto. He also loved singing with his good friend Larry and the Fields brothers.

As a young adult, David moved to Washington, DC at which time he met Kathleen (Moore) Fields, whom he married on July 8, 1978. David enjoyed life with Kathleen, as she was a devoted wife that he could depend on for love, support, and superb home-cooking. The foundation that was built between the two brought the Moore-Fields family together in a beautiful union that lasted forty-three years. From David and Kathy's union, they shared a daughter Alexandra (Fields) Evans.

Both David and Kathy understood that their Christian faith was imperative to the success of their union. They both joined Springfield Baptist Church (Washington, DC) in 1983. Later, David joined his wife in 2012 as a member of New Chapel Baptist Church, Camp Springs, MD.

David was preceded in death by his parents Henry M. Fields, Sr. and Helen V. Fields, and his two brothers, Henry M. Fields, II and Gregory Fields. To cherish his memory, David leaves his wife of forty-three years Kathleen Fields, daughter, Alexandra (Fields) Evans and son-in-law Morgan R. Evans; two sons David W. Fields, Jr. (Keizo) and Bryce M. Washington; his brothers Lorenza (Jean), Barry Fields and Joseph Steppe; his sisters Shirlee Perlow (Lenny), Gloria Fields, and Judy Clark (Melvin, deceased); one Aunt Aisha Shaeed; his brother-in-law Robert S. Moore; his sister-in-law Deborah Lucas; devoted nephews Kevin, Keith and Shane Lucas, devoted nieces Olivia N. Perlow and Nicole F. McDavid and a host of nephews, nieces, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
