Obituary

Charles Edward Dill Sr., son of late James and Mae Dill, was born in Lexington, Kentucky on September 1, 1939. On Monday July 21st, 2025, the Lord called him home.

Charles was the third of five children born to James and Mae Dill. In 1942, the family moved from Kentucky to Washington DC, where he graduated from Dunbar High School and was a member of the Golf club. In High School, Charles was also a member of the Jr Air National Guard and enlisted in 1957 in the United States Air Force as a Cryogenic Liquid Oxygen Specialist. While stationed at the 81st Field Maintenance Squadron at Royal Air Force Station Bentwater in Suffolk, England, he met the love of his life, Juliet Delores Dorson, who was studying to be a nurse. They married on June 5, 1961. Over the years, Charles and Juliet welcomed four beautiful children; Denise, Charles Jr. Terri and Serena, whom they'd pack up and move from base to base each time Charles received a new set of orders for a new base or assignment. Charles received an honorable discharge from the USAF on Oct 1, 1979.

Within a twenty-two-year span of military service, Charles was stationed at over 10 bases throughout the United States, Guam and a tour at the Pentagon; he obtained his Associates of Science Degree in Data Processing from the Community College of the Air Force, Bachelors of Art Degree in Economics from Park University in 1973, Masters of Art Degree in Health Administration from Central Michigan in 1980 and was in pursuit of his Doctoral Degree at University of Maryland in Religion in 2020. Charles was even accepted for Officer Candidate School.

After Charles retired from the military, he worked for a private company and the Navy Yard as a Computer Specialist for many years and as a Trainer of Computers specializing in laptops and Ergonomics for the Internal Revenue Service for over 20 years. After retiring from the IRS, he worked part time as a Notary Signer for local banks. Over the years, Charles received numerous awards, certifications and recognitions from his military and civilian service.

Charles was an avid reader of history books and the bible, carpenter, artist, auto mechanic and builder. He even found time to pick up the guitar and play with his grandson Jacob. It may take him a moment, but he could build a deck, full size shed, install a French drain, shingle a roof…even built desks and chairs! If he didn't know how something worked, he'd read up on it and find out what he needed to do.

Charles loved the lord and found his church family while stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. From there, he and Juliet became lifelong members of Prince George's Church of Christ.

Charles even studied to become a Religious Leader before becoming ill in 2021. He was a member of the Woodlawn Cemetery Perpetual Care Association, ensuring loved one's burial sites were tended and cared for.

Charles was a faithful servant of God, a devoted husband, a loving father and father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and caring neighbor to all who knew him. If you knew Charles, you knew how much he loved his family with all his heart.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, James and Mae Dill, his brothers James, Elmer and John Dill and his sister Lucille Dill-White. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved and devoted wife of 64 years Juliet Dill and his devoted children; daughter Denise Dill-Freeman (Sandy), son Charles Dill Jr. (Melia), daughter Terri Ann Dill, daughter Serena Dill-Tolson (Joe); grandchildren Andrea Freeman-Meisler (Tom) and Matthew Freeman, Cassandra Dill, Charles Aaron Dill (Noor), Caleb Dill and Caitlyn Dill, Damon Wilson Jr (Ebony), Camille Hodges and Tracie Nesbit, Jacob Tolson and Ian Tolson, great-grandchildren Victor Rodriguez Jr and Aleia Dill. Loving recognition of family members Natasha, Maia, Cheyenne and Trixie…and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
