Carl Ross, Jr. was born to the late Idella Duberry and Carl Ross, Sr. on September 30, 1941, in Washington, D.C.  A man of many talents, Carl was a singer, an artist, and a chef, in addition to his career as an engineer.  A lover of sports, Carl supported each of the Washington D.C. area sports franchises and was a die-hard Washington Football Team fan.  Known for immense wisdom, unrelenting compassion, and deep empathy, Carl served as a patriarch for a host of family and friends.  Carl worked as an engineer for the Government Services Administration for over 20 years before retiring from the federal government.  Carl's service to the community, however, did not end with his retirement.

Carl, along with his wife Gwendolyn, served as a foster parent for over 25 years, parenting more than 120 foster and adopted children until the age of 79.  In their effort to care for homeless children, Carl and Gwen opened group homes throughout the State of Maryland, opened a child placement agency, and trained dozens of foster parents to care for homeless children.

Carl was a devoted member of The Way of the Cross Church of Christ in Washington, D.C., where he accepted Christ as his savior.

Carl's legacy will live on through his family, friends, and the countless lives that he touched.  Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Gwendolyn Ross and his biological, adopted and many other children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren including: Oliva Ross, Silvia Ross, Carl "Zeke" Ross, Marsha Ross, Idella Ross, Brittney Wright, Cornell Wright, Cecil Ross, Kayla Wright, Emmanuel Coleman, Brandon Lopez and Ryan Lopez.

There will be a graveside service and internment held on Monday, December 28, 2020 at 11:00 AM, at the Lincoln Memorial Cemetery located at: 4001 Suitland Road, Hillcrest Heights, MD 20746

Due to expected weather conditions and the pandemic the family strongly encourages everyone to participate virtually.  Please remember if you do plan to attend in person the cemetery has strict mask and social distancing rules and please arrive by 10:45 a.m.
