Obituary

Burnest Griffin, Jr. AKA/ PeeWee was born December 14, 1946 in Greenville, NC to Rebecca Ebron Griffin and Burnest Griffin, Sr. He was their first born child and only son. He passed away peacefully On July 2, 2019.

PeeWee was educated in the Pitt County, NC school system until he relocated with his family to the Washington, DC area where he graduated from Dunbar High School. Growing up, he was fascinated with playing marbles and reading comic books. As a very young teenager in NC, PeeWee was a multi-talented, self- taught musician. He played harmonica, saxophone, guitar, piano, and drums. He also helped to form a gospel quartet group called the " Sevenaires" in Meadowbrook. In the group PeeWee led songs and played the guitar.

He was married to the late former Stallace Glover and was the father of 4 children. His daughter Jody Griffin preceded him in death in 2017. In 1968, he enlisted in the US army and did 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. When discharged from the military, he worked various jobs. He was a good builder and a skilled upholsterer. Mom would buy the material and he would upholster whatever she wanted to redo. Whatever he set his mind to do, he did it well until his mental and physical health declined.

During his later years, he enjoyed riding his bike through the District, Maryland and other places like it was a car. He also loved to watch his old time western movies and play cards. He would sing everywhere he went. It did not matter where he was, he never held back from singing and playing his guitar and harmonica. This was the way he spent his last days when visited by family and friends at Veterans Hospital. In 2016 He joined Mount Victory Baptist Church and was baptized. He really wanted to be right with God.

He is survived by his sons Burnest Griffin, III, & David Griffin both of Maryland. One daughter Angelia Griffin of Florida, 20 Grandchildren, 16 Great grandchildren, three sisters Betty Stanley of Bowie, MD, Audrey Brown, Tarboro, NC, and Marian Elaine Blair, (George) of California, MD
