On Saturday, February 17, 2024, our beloved Brenda Joyce Forby was called home at
the young age of 80. She was born on April 8, 1943, in Greeneville, Tennessee to Grace
Goodman. It was there where she met the love of her life, Jimmie Howard Forby. They were
married on September 21, 1960 in their hometown and then relocated to Washington, DC where
they raised their five children. She loved spending time with her husband watching westerns
and Family Feud.
Besides her family, Brenda had two great loves: gardening, and cooking. She would
plant, cook, or bake anything you desired. Her vegetable garden was large and lush and
produced some of the best tasting and most beautiful produce the world has ever seen. Many
of you in attendance have probably been blessed by her bountiful harvest. We will truly miss her
sharing her heart through food. She was kind, generous, and a woman of God. She donated
yearly to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude's Children Hospital, and the Shriners Hospitals
for Children. She delighted in giving gifts to her friends and family. As a great woman, loving
mother, and "Nanaw" to her grandchildren, Brenda, will be terribly missed and forever in our
hearts.
She is preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings, Margaret, James, Hubert,
Mary Maude, Wayne, Ella Mae, Carolyn, and David. She is survived by her husband of 63
years, her children, - Vickie Forby-Stevenson(Freddie), Regina Alvarez (Raoul), Tyrone Forby
Cheryl Forby, and Carol Forby-Corbin (Bernard) - her grandchildren, - Erica Forby-Stevenson,
Garrett "LB" Summers, Donte Carter (Destiney), Frederick "Ricky" Forby-Pugh, Alexis August
(Mitchell), Deon Forby, Mackenzie Alvarez and Xavier Crawford - and her nieces, nephews as
well as a host of friends that she loved dearly.
"And all wept and bewailed her: but He said, Weep not, she is not dead but sleeping"
