Betty Aultmon Thirkill of Upper Marlboro, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2021. She was
the 3 rd child born to Rayford and Georgie Aultmon, on August 10, 1950. Life began for Betty in
Washington DC. It was Mount Calvary Baptist Church of Washington, DC where she was
baptized and held her initial membership. She attended DC public schools and graduated from
Eastern High School in 1968. Eager to begin her next journey, she sought out a job within the
federal government. Later to expand her knowledge, she attended Prince Georges Community
College and a local computer school. After receiving her Computer Programming certification,
she began her career in computers in the 80's. Her employment with the federal government
brought her many experiences, titles and positions ending with the International Trade
Commission.
Betty A. Thirkill was a beautiful woman inside and out, who loved her family. Always willing
and ready to do for someone. Pray, for you and with you. Constantly inspired and
encouraged. She'd be there to listen, drive you somewhere or feed you. The person you'd turn
to in your time of need. Family gatherings such as cookouts and birthday parties were a must
for her. Jambalaya and macaroni & cheese were two of her specialties. She enjoyed music,
dancing, watching a good movie, bowing, taking pictures and baking goodies for her family.
Singing was also a love of hers since her teenage years. She didn't share this special talent with
everyone. Chosen family and friends were fortunate enough to get her rendition of the
birthday song.
Her family was her world especially her daughters and grandchildren. For Betty, she didn't just
tell you she loved you, she also showed you. Her handcrafted Halloween decorations, goodie
bags (that extended into adulthood) and epic sleepovers will always be remembered. She
exceeded her goal of being the best wife, mother, and grandmother. We will cherish the
memories and traditions created. Making others happy was her focus. The impact went
beyond family, and friends. A blessing to all!
She leaves behind her spouse, one daughter, two sons-in-law, six grandchildren, two siblings,
one sister in-law, one brother in-law, two nieces, one nephew and a host of other relatives and
friends.
