Barbara Jane Simmons MacFarlane, 92, lived to honor the Lord daily until He called her home on June 6, 2019, and she heard Him say, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." Barbara was born on August 6, 1926, to her loving parents in Washington, D.C. In her younger years, she taught music at Taft Jr. High School and worked as the executive secretary of WTTG Channel 5 in Washington, D.C. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Christian Aid Mission. She was a church pianist for Grace Brethren Church, Lanham, MD, when it met at 12th and E Street in Washington, D.C., and would play duets with her mother who played the pipe organ. Her greatest joy was in raising her children and caring for her family. She would often remind them to put God first. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Iain McGoram MacFarlane in 1964, her father Francis Estol Simmons, her mother Rhoda Belle McCartney Simmons, and her sister Patricia Simmons Miller (Robert). She leaves to cherish her memory her son Ian MacFarlane (Jolene) of Fredericksburg, VA; daughter Rhoda MacFarlane of the home; and grandchildren Ian MacFarlane, Jr. (Anna), of Austin, TX; Beau MacFarlane of Richmond, VA; Brad MacFarlane of Fairview Beach, VA; and Christina MacFarlane of Fredericksburg, VA. Services will be private.
