Obituary

Augustus "Gus" Pryor was born on July 23, 1936, to Charles Henry Pryor and Queen Esther Dunlop in Fredericksburg, Virginia.  He became present with the Lord in eternal heaven on Saturday, April 14, 2018.  He lived a happy and fulfilling life and was blessed, loved, and cherished.  At an early age, Augustus accepted Jesus Christ and was a member of Little Ark Baptist Church of Dahlgren, VA.  He attended Ralph Bunche High School, King George County, Virginia, where he excelled in his studies and athletics, playing basketball and baseball.  After graduation, Augustus served in the United States Air Force and received an Honorable Discharge.

During his 30 year career, Augustus worked for the IBM Corporation in Washington, DC, and Manassas, Virginia as a machinist.  Through the years, he also sought to broaden his education by attending Lincoln Technical Institute and Strayer University.  Augustus was a member of Beulah Baptist Church of Deanwood Heights in Washington, DC while he resided in the area.  When his job with IBM transferred to Manassas, Virginia, Augustus joined First Baptist Church, where he sang on the Men's Choir and served as a faithful member who truly rejoiced in the Lord.

Augustus was a hardworking, outgoing, good-natured man, who loved his family and our savior Jesus Christ.  He greatly enjoyed the outdoors from working in his garden to fishing with family and friends.  He also enjoyed walking the shoreline of the Potomac to find the perfect piece of driftwood that he could transform into art and useful home accessories.  His driftwood creations are unique treasures.  He was a good neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  And, he always expressed a pleasant greeting to everyone… friends or strangers.  Augustus was also a life long sports enthusiast who especially enjoyed rooting for the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Lakers.  He even developed a masterful "hook shot" that he exercised regularly during family basketball games with his children.

Augustus was truly blessed.  He leaves to cherish his memory six children; Anthony Pryor (Darlene), Sonya Pryor, Tonya Pryor, Sean Pryor, Duan Pryor (Sylvana), and Shawn Fouche, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two dear sisters, Margaret Johnson and Corean Hodge, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
